It is learnt that the people of Dima Hasao in general and of Haflong in particular were facing untold inconvenience due to the indifferent attitude of the ASEB authorities to provide proper electric supply. Haflong, the district Head Quarters of Dima Hasao requires only 5.5 MW in peak hours and 3 MW requires during the day hours but the State Load Distribution Centre(SLDC) Guwahati does not allow more than 1.5 MW, following which this artificial power crisis in Dima Hasao is reoccurrence. Beside these, the consumers (householders) are also created a lot of problems by connection electrification of their houses through hook-system. So, it is a great fault of the localities to turn-up more power while the SLDC provides only 1.5MW for the whole area of Haflong town. So, low voltage and irregularity of power supply is occurred automatically in our district. Moreover, while a household needs five 100w power bulbs he/she used about 10bulbs and many other electrical appliances resulting power supply problems for other households. This is also one of the major problems in our locality. And I don’t know why load shedding in the district is needed every day. The time of load shedding is mush complain-able because it occurred in around 7pm – 9pm every night, which is right a studying and reading time for the students. So one day, an angry mob ransacked the offices of Sub-Divisional Officer, Executive Engineer, Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) and Tower & Transmission at Haflong and Lower Haflong today (Monday) in protest against the frequent load shedding and irregular power supply in Dima Hasao. The mob damaged several computers, cash collection machine and office furniture of these offices as the staffs failed to convince the mob. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. First of all the Government must look into the matter that the govt power supply and the consumer is whether balance or not. 2. The State Level Distribution Centre(SLDC) must provide the district’s requirement of 5.5MW in peaks hours and 3 MW for the days to meet the district’s requirement. 3. The concern department also must enquire throughout the district, not only the district level, but also to visit house to house whether the connection that the localities is official or unofficial and thereby take necessary actions against these. 4. Above all, all the localities should respect and follow the Govt. rules and regulations, should stop hook-connection(unofficial connection). 5. One must connect officially if he/she desire electrification in his own house and uses.
